Northern Cyprus

Last updated: 4 April 2026

Overview

Yachting infrastructure is limited compared to the south, with fewer marinas and a less developed services network. Sailors visiting the north should be aware of the onward travel restrictions to southern Cyprus before planning their visit.

Attractions

Kyrenia Castle sits at the entrance to the old harbour in Kyrenia, a well-preserved example of Byzantine fortification. Within its walls, the Shipwreck Museum houses the remains of a Greek trading vessel dating to around the fourth century BC, said to be one of the oldest recovered wooden ships found in Cypriot waters.

Notes for mariners

Port facilities in northern Cyprus are limited. Kyrenia is the principal harbour and port office. Sailors should research current restrictions on travel between the north and south when planning to travel here.
